Inspiration

Indoor plumbing was not common in most Appalachian homes just a short time ago.  So, the occupants could not bath easily.  Most of the bedrooms would have a wash stand.  This was a designated place to store a pitcher of water and a bowl as well as hang a towel.  With these items the Appalachians could clean themselves at the end of a long hard day’s work.

Most wash stand would be made using quality hardwood to withstand the continual exposure to water and soap.  My design uses quarter sawn white oak because it is a very stable wood. 

The gentle curves and turned legs make this wash stand a piece of furniture that blends well in any bedroom style.  The dovetailed drawer is historically correct and will last many generations.
